Texas Highway

This photo was taken through the windshield of my Dodge, on an isolated Texas highway, somewhere in Big Bend National Park in Texas while driving at about 85 mph. It was in late September of 1997 or 1998 and I propped my Nikon FM2 up on the dash, centered the car on the yellow line and started shooting. This whole day, I think I saw maybe one or two other cars (not counting the border patrol checkpoints).  The film was developed and promptly forgotten. Forgotten until today.

To create this image, I scanned the original print into Photoshop and did a lot of cleanup and noise reduction. Then a bit of color correction to give the warm vintage look and finally I ran it through Topaz Impression.

So the base photograph was not shot recently, but this image was created today.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
