Windhover Hall

If you ask someone in Milwaukee how to get to Windhover Hall you may get some blank looks.  If you ask how to get to the art museum or perhaps “that cool building with the wings”, they’ll know exactly how to direct you.  While the proper name of the building escapes most people – the entire building is the Quadracci Pavillion and the exterior wing-like structure is called the Burke Brise Soleil – the beauty of the building certainly does not.

On the inside, the main entrance and gateway to the rest of the museum is Windover Hall.  And no matter what you want to call it,  the initial reaction to it is almost always speechless awe.  The soaring 90-foot glass ceiling is stunning and naturally lets in plenty of light.   I’ve never seen anything like it and I never get tired of visiting and photographing it.

I shot 6 horizontal photos for this vertical panorama and then converted it to a high contrast black and white.  As a final touch, I added just a bit of color to give it a sort of sepia look.

If you are looking for art for your home or office or something to spice up your digital desktop, this image and most of the others from this project are available as prints and digital downloads.  You can also check out the rest of my portfolio here.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
