Me and My Shadow

Me and My Shadow

Reflection, meet shadow.   Here is another shot of my son from the Milwaukee Art Museum this Labor Day weekend.   Up on the third floor of the new wing, there are these great big windows overlooking the lake and the rest of the museum.  One of his favorite places there, he loves to look out the…… Continue reading Me and My Shadow

The Windy City

The Windy City

What a day in the Windy City!  After well over 10 miles of walking, photographing everything along the way, a couple of great meals, a few tasty beverages, and lots of sunburns and blisters, we ended our day sitting on the breakwater near the Adler Planetarium watching the sun go down behind the city of Chicago.  …… Continue reading The Windy City

The Chicago Skyline

Chicago at Sunset

The Chicago Skyline from the Adler Planetarium.  Since I am spending this day shooting with friends in Chicago, I thought I’d share an image I took the last time was there last August.  I was there for the Trey Ratcliff Tour Across the USA photo walk along with a couple hundred of my closest friends.…… Continue reading The Chicago Skyline

Lighting the Way

Lighting the Way

A dual street light, lighting the way to…who knows?  There is something compelling and yet sad and lonely about a man-made structure like this lamp post isolated and removed from it’s normal environment.   Framed like this, reality is hidden and the imagination takes over.   Is this the top of a high-rise parking structure?  A…… Continue reading Lighting the Way

Sunset at Scuppernong Springs

Sunset at Scuppernong Springs

Sunset at Scuppernong Springs in the Kettle Moraine State Forest, Southern Unit, in southeast Wisconsin.   This shot is a prime example of working with what you have and making something out of basically nothing in processing.  Taken on a small bridge over the spring fed Scuppernong River along the Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail, I…… Continue reading Sunset at Scuppernong Springs

The Dark Figure

Dark Figure

A dark figure stands in a doorway peering into an empty room.   Who is he?  Why is he there?  What does he see?  What is he thinking?  These are all questions I ask myself when I am creating my images.  What is the subject and what do I want it to say to me…… Continue reading The Dark Figure

Abyss

Abyss

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.” –Friedrich Nietzsche The stare, a self-portrait.  This image started as a simple exercise to test my old Vivitar 283 flash.  My goal…… Continue reading Abyss

Voyeur – A Self-Portrait

“You’re either going to walk through life and experience it fully or you’re going to be a voyeur.” -Nicole Kidman Self-portrait shot through the frosted glass of our back door.  This turned out to be a lot more creepy than I intended.  But I’m happy with that.  😉 Day 131 of my 365 photo a…… Continue reading Voyeur – A Self-Portrait
